The Nest (Nursery)

Meet the Nursery Team (ID 1127)

Welcome to our class page
Here you’ll find an overview of what the children will be learning each week. This will give you a little insight into the themes we are exploring, the skills being developed and the exciting experiences planned as learning unfolds across the curriculum.

Week Commencing 9 February 2026

Next week in Nursery we will be celebrating Safer Internet Day by exploring a range of technology, including Cubetto, cameras and computers. The children will learn how to use technology safely and understand the importance of asking a grown-up for help. In our nursery environment, we will continue to explore The Little Red Hen through a range of activities. The children will match the correct number of feathers to numerals and practise subitising spots, remembering to “stop” at the last number. We will also use collage materials to create our own Little Red Hens, build enclosures for them, and use the nursery camera to capture our creations.

Week Commencing 2 February 2026

This week in Nursery, the children will be sharing the story 'The Little Red Hen'. They will be joining in with the repeated parts as we read together, helping to build confidence and language skills. The children will sequence the events of the story and draw a simple story map to support retelling. In math's, they will count out feathers for the Little Red Hen, learning that the last number said is the total. They will also use their ‘dough disco’ skills to create their own Little Red Hen using the playdough and natural resources. The children will practice block play skills as they build a home for her, learning to build an enclosure.

Week Commencing 26 January 2026

Next week in nursery, we will be learning all about counting and sharing the story 'The Gingerbread Man.'

The children will practice counting numbers in order and enjoy counting gingerbread men and buttons one at a time. We will also be learning how to stop counting at a given number, helping the children understand that the last number counted tells us how many there are (the cardinal number).
