Sparrows (Reception and Year 1)
Sparrows (ID 1130)
Welcome to our class page
Here you’ll find an overview of what the children will be learning each week. This will give you a little insight into the themes we are exploring, the skills being developed and the exciting experiences planned as learning unfolds across the curriculum.
Week Commencing 1 February 2026
Next week in Sparrows, we will be observing the birds which visit our outside area from our very own Bird Hide. We hope they enjoy eating from our homemade bird feeders.
We will use feathers, sticks and other natural resources to create our own representations of the birds we see.
We will be sharing different versions of the story ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ and painting our own pictures of the Giant. You can watch a version of the story here with Mr Tumble by clicking on the image below.
Week Commencing 26 January 2026
In Sparrows we will be enjoying a range of hands-on learning experiences. As part of the Big Garden Birdwatch, we will be making our own bird feeder using Cheerios and string or pipe cleaners, helping to develop fine motor skills. We will place the feeders in our outdoor area, and the children will also bring one home along with a bird identification chart so you can continue the learning together. We will also be exploring melting ice in the tuff tray to rescue penguins and polar bears, developing vocabulary such as cold, wet, ice, melt, and water. We will also continue sharing different versions of The Three Billy Goats Gruff.
