Welcome to our class page
Here you’ll find an overview of what the children will be learning each week. This will give you a little insight into the themes we are exploring, the skills being developed and the exciting experiences planned as learning unfolds across the curriculum.
Week Commencing 1 February 2026
Next week in Reception, we will be observing the birds which visit our outside area from our very own Bird Hide. We hope they enjoy eating from our homemade bird feeders. Please remember to complete a bird identification chart at home too so that we can check whether different birds visit our gardens. Thank-you.
In the art studio we will use feathers, sticks and other natural resources to create our own representations of the birds we see.
As part of our learning about traditional stories, we will be sharing different versions of the story ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ and painting our own pictures of the Giant.

Week Commencing 26 January 2026
Next week in Reception, we will be continuing to share different versions of the story The Three Billy Goats Gruff. Children will join in with the repeated phrases from the story and act out key events as the goats try to cross the bridge.
In the playdough area, children will be making characters from the story and adding details such as features. We will create our own bridges in the construction area and act out the goats travelling across the bridge and escaping from the troll underneath.
The children will also be learning how to change a character in the story, thinking about what could be under the bridge instead of a troll. This will support creativity and help children understand how stories can be adapted.
Alongside our story work, the children will begin learning about the Big British Bird Watch. We will explore different birds we might see, make our own bird feeders, and prepare for our own bird watch in school.
You can find out more on the link: Big Garden Birdwatch.
In maths, the children will be learning their double facts to 5, using practical activities and games to support their understanding.
We will also be singing 12345 Once I caught a fish alive— why not sing this together at home too? Click here to access the song!
